Swine Flu- Legitimate crisis or over-reaction?
Swine Flu is currently the hottest topic being spread by the media, the topic spread much faster than the virus itself and some countries are already banning pork exports from NZ! Is the reaction from other countries and NZ legitimate or has it been caused by massive hype in the media?

Doctor Shortages - the old 'beast' rears its head again!
We've read about it in the Herald and other local newspapers again. We all know what the facts are and yet we are no closer to actually finding a solution.... Why is this the case? Have a read of some of the comments Joe Public is making and read the Herald article here as well... http://blogs.msn.nzherald.co.nz/blog/yo ... mentpage=1
http://blogs.msn.nzherald.co.nz/blog/yo ... /?c_id=204
What is happening in the rest of the country? Be sure to share your views - its up to RMOs to educate the public on what is really happening in our hospitals and with our training.

First year Drs at ADHB do not have the skills expected of them?!
A new journal report has stated that first year Post Graduate Doctors do not have the skills required or expected of them.
Big call!! What are your thoughts and if you think it is true then why do these first tear post-grad doctors not have the skills expected of them?
Read more about the article here: http://www.nzma.org.nz/journal/119-1229/1850/

Government releases bribe to keep Doctors in NZ
The Government has released a scheme aimed at reducing the brain drain by potentially paying $50,000 over 5 years to Medical graduates willing to work in under staffed rural areas. Is this a solution or merely a over hyped bribe that will have little effect on a well entrenched brain drain and also, with massive shortages of Doctors in other urban areas, are rural areas in the most need to be targeted by a scheme like this?

2009 RMO Job Cuts- WTF?
In the first two weeks of 2009 it was leaked that Auckland's three Health Boards plan to cut over 200 RMO jobs. The leak quickly sparked heated debate- what do you think? Could it be justified or is it just another cost sparing method adding to already overflowing workloads of senior staff?
