What is Indemnity Insurance?
Indemnity Insurance provides support for problems that arise during professional practice. This can include malpractice, disputes and actions brought against you.
Why do I need it?
Many potential problems can arise that can be stressful, expensive and legally complex. They can threaten employment, income and careers. It is a good idea to have support during such times.

What does it cover and for how much?
Provides professional support to members who experience medico-legal problems in the course of their work.
MPS is not an insurance company. We are entirely owned by our members-with no shareholders. Our discretionary approach means that we can extend the help we provide beyond the limits imposed by the detailed terms and conditions of an insurance contract.
Our cover is provided whenever the problem emerges, irrespective of whether you remain a member, thus giving you peace of mind.
How much does it cost as a:
- Trainee Intern for my overseas elective?
NIL - First Year House Officer?
$118.13pa - Second year and above House Officer?
$478.13pa - Registrar / Fellow?
$540pa.
What if I go overseas?
Your NZ membership will not cover you to work abroad. However MPS is an international organisation, providing assistance in many countries. Please let us know of your destination and we will advise you about appropriate cover.
Is there a “No Claims” bonus, especially if I cease membership?
NO. There is often a delay between an incident occurring and it being reported, so we may have to do work on your behalf after you cease membership with us.
