Some golden rules for a successful investment portfolio.

Be patient
Short-term volatility in equity markets is to be expected. Historically though, the sharemarket rewards patient, long-term investors.

Don’t attempt to time the market
Investors who understand that timing the market is almost impossible will be less prone to react to short term extremes and more likely to adhere to their long-term investment strategy.

This blog, and many others are full of the joys involved in a move to Australia and New Zealand. A region where work/life balance is (usually) possible, and where we don't have to routinely watch patients die while they wait for outpatient appointments, or operating theatre slots.

How do we find certainty when the very ground beneath our feet has betrayed us?

As a child of Canterbury, and part of the team here at MedRecruit, I wanted to write this blog, to thank you, and to share with you.

Many of you will have experienced this tragedy first hand, and for the work you have done, I really thank you on behalf of all my family and friends and community. It’s not just the physical care you provide, that helps alleviate uncertainty about our broken bones. It’s the kind words of reassurance, a gentle touch, a smile, pausing to listen, that helps cradle our broken hearts. It makes all the difference, and in its own way, provides some moment of certainty and security that maybe everything will be alright.

It struck me however, that there are plenty of ‘networks’ at play within a healthcare setting. For example – we all form part of a team within the specialty we work in, but we’re also generally part of a wider team that includes nurses, OTs, phyisos, pharmacists, dieticians etc. Our immediate teams interact with other teams from the same and different specilaties. The web gets more and more complex the more you think about it.

New Zealand’s healthcare system has undergone significant changes in the last decade, some of which have lumbered primary healthcare providers with far greater administrative duties than before. The establishment of Primary Health Organisations and restructuring of ACC are classic examples.

Add increasingly complex healthcare regulations into the mix, and it’s clear that healthcare providers need a new level of practical business knowledge. Guess where that burden falls? That’s right – on the Practice Manager.
