Informal teaching: Informal training happens all the time, Ward Rounds, Radiology meetings, Grand Round etc

All RMOs would get on average 2-3 hours training per week.

SMO
SMOs have all MECA related training opportunities available to them. The CCDHB tries to accommodate any extra training opportunities whenever it can.

We are also linked to the University of Otago Medical school and have a significant number of our staff on dual appointments between the DHB and the university.

How easy is it for clinicians to get leave

RMO

We try and accommodate all leave requests we can across all levels. However this does depend on a number of factors. Most importantly are staffing levels. Currently the CCDHB is experiencing high staffing levels so leave requests can be approved.

What parking facilities are available?

There is a range of parking options available at the CCDHB. This ranges from free off street parking to staff paid parking. There are several car parks made available to staff on all of our sites. We offer a free bus out to our satellite hospital every hour. This is available to all staff members whom also live out that way.

Public transport is very reliable in Wellington so many of our staff does use this option.

What IT systems does your DHB have (eg. electronic discharges, electronic radiology requests etc.)?

CCDHB uses a range of ICT systems in support of the clinical services. The core Patient Management System is iSoft (was IBA) WebPAS. The clinical records are still held on Allegra Clinical Record but there is a project to upgrade this to the Orion Clinical Record Suite. More specialised systems include iSoft EDIS (for Emergency Department); ORSOS (for theatre management) and Carestream RIS provide radiology management.

CCDHB radiology is filmless using a Carestream PACS with this area being integrated to other clinical systems. The client devices are a mixture of standard desktops and Citrix terminals. Good external access is provided through the Citrix technology. CCDHB uses Webdocs for electronic discharge summary and lab results are also sent out via Healthlink. A range of further integration initiatives are progressing.

What other support structures / facilities are available for SMO / RMOs (childcare, gyms, security etc.)?

What are the accommodation options in your DHB's area?

Wellington has a wide range of accommodation. The hospital is only a 5 minute drive to the heart of Wellington city so you are never short of options.

What are some of the other attractions for your DHB area?

Capital and Coast District Health Board is one of 21 District Health Boards (DHBs) throughout New Zealand. The main centre for the CCDHB is Wellington Hospital.

We serve a population of about 270,000 residents and provide some specialist services for a regional population of about 900,000 people. We deliver community, primary, secondary and tertiary health services.

Wellington is a large secondary and tertiary hospital with a clinical school from the University of Otago attached.

A multi-million dollar Wellington Regional Hospital has just been opened in March of this year. The development ensures world class medical professionals will be matched by state of the art facilities.

The development provides a unique opportunity to develop new and innovative models of care and to improve the access to services. It also includes an integrated teaching hospital.

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand / Aotearoa. It is also the cultural, administrative and political centre of the country. Two aspects of the city that will immediately strike any visitor are the sprawling harbour and the dramatic, hilly terrain. Everywhere you go, the sounds and smell of the ocean hang in the air, and green hills and valleys wrap you in a bear-hug embrace.

At night, Wellington offers up a spectacular, shimmering cityscape that is unlike almost anywhere else in the world. Even after seeing it for the hundredth time, it takes one's breath away.
Wellington is a vibrant, scenic, windy, cosmopolitan, diverse, eccentric, maddening and hilarious place. It has the some of the best museums, art galleries, restaurants, microbreweries, and coffee houses in the country. It is the storehouse for the nation's historic, cultural and artistic treasures. Being the first place European settlers arrived, it also boasts lots of historic streets and buildings.
